The American Immigration Council and 117 other organizations wrote a letter to the U.S. House and Senate Committees on Appropriations in support of funding for appointed counsel for immigration proceedings for Fiscal Year 2022. The letter asks that the $50 million for appointed counsel included in H.R.4505 be maintained, and that the same funding level be incorporated in any Senate counterpart. It explains how funding appointed counsel would increase due process, as well as reduce detention and court costs.
