American Immigration Council Welcomes Michelle Lapointe as New Legal Director
WASHINGTON, DC, April 15 2024—The American Immigration Council is thrilled to announce that Michelle Lapointe will be joining the team as the new Legal Director. Michelle brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in advancing and defending the rights of immigrants and their families.
Michelle Lapointe joins the Council from the National Immigration Law Center, where she served as a deputy legal director. Previously, she worked as an attorney at the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Immigrant Justice Project, where she litigated cases to defend immigrants' rights and challenge abusive law enforcement practices. Her experience includes representing thousands of workers in class and collective actions for unpaid wages and other employment law violations, primarily in the Deep South.
Jeremy Robbins, executive director of the American Immigration Council, stated, "Michelle's deep commitment to justice and her extensive experience in immigration law make her an invaluable addition to our team. Michelle is a graduate of the American University Washington College of Law, where she was a Public Interest/Public Service Scholar, and Wellesley College. She is based in Atlanta, bringing her expertise to the Council's broader mission of ensuring a more equitable and humane immigration system.
