WASHINGTON, Jan. 25, 2022The American Immigration Council (Council) welcomes two new hires. Mina Devadas joins the Council as the new Chief Development Officer and Kimberly Serrano joins the Council as the new Director for the Center for Inclusion and Belonging.

Prior to joining the American Immigration Council, Mina Devadas was the Chief Development Officer for the Society to Improve Diagnosis in Medicine. She previously served as Director of Development at United We Dream and led fundraising programs for the Children’s Defense Fund and the Center for Public Integrity. She has dedicated her career to building and negotiating investments of more than $100 million across the nonprofit sector. Since 2000, she has served in leadership or senior-level fundraising roles for national and international organizations. Based in Washington D.C., Mina will lead the Council’s Development Team and efforts. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore.

Most recently, Kimberly Serrano founded the CoLAB at California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) to explore how to build inclusive narratives that dignify and humanize immigrants and refugees. In that role, she managed the first immigration door-to-door and phone deep canvasses, conducted extensive quantitative and qualitative research, and steered a national synthesis of immigration messaging research. Kim has spent most of her career navigating the complex emotions, ideologies, and experiences associated with attitudes toward immigration and immigrants, all with an orientation toward healing and bridge-building. She has also worked with several think tanks at the University of California, Irvine and Los Angeles. She holds degrees from UCLA in Urban and Regional Planning (MURP), Latin American Studies (MA), and Art History (BA)

Council Executive Director Jeremy Robbins stated,Belonging is one of our key focus areas. To continue this great work, Kim Serrano will be joining us as the Director of the Center for Inclusion and Belonging. Kim is a social change maker who has spent the last decade leading groundbreaking messaging research collaborations on immigrant rights and climate justice. As we enter a new year, we are also delighted to welcome Mina Devadas to the team. She has spent most of her career, spanning three decades, in service to organizations committed to advancing equity, social justice, and democracy. We are excited to add these two phenomenal leaders to our team and continue our trajectory for organizational growth.”
